Environmental Trip

We went to a mining lake in Kelana Jaya( which looks like a normal lake where ppl go fishing), a river and forest in Gombak for the trip yesterday. It was FOC and we only need to bring our lunch and enjoy at the river there. So, I woked up early in the morning to make egg sandwiches and headed to uni at 8.30am. Left monash by 9.15am and off we go to kelana jaya. The lake is pretty big and i see ppl fishing there. We collected the water hysin that is near the bank and shook the plant so that the animals that is living in the plants will fall off. Then we took a lot at what actually lives in the plant and near the roots. There was apple snail, flat worm, damsel fly, water strider and many more. All were just small insects. After we were done taking a look at the sample, then off we go to Gombak. Once we got off the bus, everyone was spraying mosquito repellent on their hands and feet to avoid insect bites and LEECH. Well the forest that we were walking in, has no proper trail and its not a reserve forest. Just some forest which anyone can just walk in and get lost if you dont know the way. It was quite slippery at times. Halfway through, Jasmine realised her foot was itchy and so she lifted her pants. Unfortunately she got bitten by a leech and the leech is no where to be seen. It did not stop bleeding until finally when she reached the river, she asked Jill for a plaster. We looked at the habitat of the insect along the river which is mostly the underneath the small rocks. There were many kinds of insects there like water strider, 'caddis fly'(not sure how u spelled it) and dragon fly. Dr Cathy who wore short and sandals was bitten by 2 leeches. After lunch, we then left the river. Gosh it was tiring walking up the hill. Man i was sweating till my whole face was wet..From the middle of the line, i thn fall back to a quarter frm the end.Going down was so much easier and not tiring...but it was an experience! Thn we headed back to Monash and home.

Leech!
'young chaddis fly'
So tired that we had to sleep in the bus on the way back
